Navigating the complex regulatory landscape for lubricants can be frustrating. Regulations and restrictions on chemicals can vary from country to country, and even state to state. A formulation component can be allowed in one country and completely banned in another. It’s important for end-users to be able to trust that the product they are using is compliant and permitted for use in different regions around the world.
Lubrizol’s Product Safety and Compliance Department (PSCD) lends their expertise to CPI, making sure our products meet all necessary regulatory requirements. For example, an area of great concern for end users wishing to import or use chemical products in the European Union is REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals). REACH is an initiative that began in 2007. Chemicals are reviewed for their impact on human health and the environment, and potential risks are evaluated. Lubrizol’s PSCD team ensures products that are manufactured or sold into Europe have been REACH registered, eliminating that concern for our customers.
GHS (Globally Harmonized System of classification and labeling of chemicals) compliant labels and SDSs are another area of concern for modern-day end-users of chemical products. GHS is an internationally agreed-upon standard for hazard testing criteria, featuring universally recognized pictograms for hazard classifications and harmonized Safety Data Sheets. Our PSCD team is continuously reviewing our products to make sure that we are using the appropriate pictograms, if necessary, and that our SDS documents are reflective of the latest regulations. Customers are assured that the products they purchase from CPI are properly identified and labeled for GHS hazards.
PSCD, working behind the scenes, is dedicated to creating and updating SDS technical documents that reflect current global guidelines & ensuring the compliance of CPI products with regional initiatives such as REACH. Managing complexity is one of CPI’s strengths as a trusted solutions provider. This is an important attribute when evaluating a lubricant supplier. The work of Lubrizol’s PSCD, combined with nearly 50 years of industry experience and expertise, affords peace of mind to our customers.
